Fundable!

I've been asked by Matushka Elizabeth here at the St. George's to be resourceful and see if I can find a computer for a large family in need. I'll be sending out an email, but I wanted to post it on here as well.

The Link: http://www.fundable.org/groupactions/homeschoolcomputer

The Story: Details are listed on the page, but basically this is an online pledge-based fundraiser with purchasing a computer as the goal. The family has eight children and is currently being raised by the mother. The father had been unfaithful and took the family computer with him when he decided to leave. The mother is doing her best to homeschool the children, but it's very difficult to do without a computer to install their schooling software!

Our Progress: As of this post, we are $125 along the way, but still have about $375 to go. I know there have been some frustrations and fears about donated money not actually ending up where you send it, and I hope this will at least provide a safe place to offer your alms and charity. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me at: wilsonwave(at)gmail(dot)com.

Next Year's World Series.. Yeah Right

Check it out on CNet.

Technology will inevitably work its way into sports, but c'mon, how are you going to eat your hotdog, avoid spilling your beer on your electronic devices and catch a home run ball all at the same time? They're going to have people sueing the ballpark for getting hit in the head while they're looking down watching the game. Although, at least they'll get the instant replay of themselves!

Live just isn't good enough anymore I suppose.

Good Morning Americans, It's Friday!

Gas prices are down, and so is the temperature. I laughed to myself when I saw this kid riding a skateboard on the side of the road just a bit ago on my way to fill my car with $1.95 gas. He was bundled up in gloves, a stocking cap, and a hooded sweatshirt that was obviously layered over a couple other shirts. The temperature? 70 degrees. Absolutely perfect for Hoosier weather. It was 98 and stifling yesterday here though, so I can understand the adjustment. But come on, gloves? This is so great.

I drove to the nearest H.E.B. (A fancified Kroger for you northerners), just a couple minutes away, and found out that I can spend a lot less money just buying my lunch there everyday. On top of all this great news, it's payday. Praise God! ;)

(p.s. Anyone from the Valley knows that's not a local Shell station. Everyone is dying for Krispy Kreme to put up a store somewhere nearby.)

Dancing With the Devil In... McAllen

I heard an interesting story this morning about an hispanic legend that originated in McAllen, TX in the 70's or 80's. It was during the Catholic Church's season of Lent back when the whole town would piously shut down all clubs (dancing, music, fancy dining, etc.) out of sanctity for the season. A local restaurant (some Mexican establishment I can't remember the name of now - hotspot for dining and dancing) was the first (during Lent) to begin playing music while serving dinner. A young girl in her late teens wanted to go to this restaurant for the evening, but her mother wouldn't allow it. So, she sneaked out on her own in her fancy dress to go. When she got there, she sat down at a table by herself. An extremely handsome man asked her to dance and she accepted. They were the only ones on the dance floor for some time. Then, according to local legend, he began to spin her around while dancing. He kept spinning her faster and faster until.. *POOF* .. he vanished and she was left sprawled on the floor, dead.

A local radio station today (I assume in preparation for Halloween) had people calling in who were claiming to be "witnesses" to this event back in the day. They say that the man had the feet of a goat, (some say one goat's foot, one chicken foot). The general assumption is that the man was the devil punishing the girl, knowing she disobeying her mother.

Take it for what it's worth, but I thought it was interesting, especially living so close to it! That, and the chupacabras.
